Game 4 03:46
Game 4, how’s it gonna go? Come on let’s go, Cubs, let’s go! Calling all Whelans to meet by Mr. Cub If just to see how far you’ve come. Sure, it’s been years since Whelans even lived here in Chicago, But don’t let that stop you. From way out east to way out west, We came ourselves to let our fathers rest, But they won’t ever rest. Calling all Halls to attention as the wind blows: Tip your hats to ol’ Ron Santo. Sure it’s been years since you could call this your town, But it’s still your town (but you’d better share it!). Columbia to Wrigley Field is just a day’s drive So you’ll rest later. Besides, you’re always resting. Game 4, how’s it gonna go? Come on let’s go, Cubs, let’s go! Look alive: no matter how it goes, Look at all the feeling, look at all the people. But oh, God, if they lose them all at home… Come on let’s go, Cubs, let’s go! Score is rising now… Time is running out! Calling all kids who caught them ten times up in Mesa, You’ve made it out of Arizona. They sure won’t win so long as both of us are present, But here we both are, and I don’t regret it. Game 4, how’s it gonna go? Come on let’s go, Cubs, let’s go! Look alive: no matter how it goes, Look at little cousins! Look at Aunt and Uncle! But oh God if they lose them all at home… Come on let’s go, Cubs, let’s go! Look alive, no matter how it goes, We’ll win it next year, win it next year!

He Was Born On The South Side of town A weaker Boy would of cheered for the Sox But Harry Caray on WGN showed the way He got his knuckles bruised by I nun For sneaking in a pocket radio into class “Sister Mary please don’t Ron Santo is up at bat” They shipped him off overseas Day games at 10pm didn’t feel right But a Sandburg Jersey made Germany a little Windy Completely useless by september What an acronym to remember It didn’t matter how many more September's, he had Who else would he of cheered for He had a son who he raised strong Summertime trips back to sweet home Chicago Where they watched Sammy Sosa take McGuire in 98 Fathers and sons are born to fight They could set it all aside for a night When they watched Dusty Baker try to hold that wildcard He got a call from his son “Pops we did it this is our year” “Well they pulled it off son but they shouldn’t of they pulled it off son but they shouldn’t of Hell they pulled it off son but they shouldn’t have put Chapman in”

Every E.R.A. Every batter’s name. Small and fine, my aging eyes can only hope to find. Every single time Ernie RBI’d. The way you write your hasty lines look just like me. Just like mine. The blown leads. Your notes on every defeat. Dad your sickness is still with us, So I will wait as long as it takes For this rain to go away.

November 2 03:20
November second we had everyone we knew Crammed into our apartment bleeding Cubbie Blue We sat on opposite sides of the room They started out damn well the best they did all year But by the 8th they had shown me my worst fears I told a silent room there’s always next year If they win tonight I guess anything could happen Hell our love just might stand a chance If we end the night singing “Go Cubs Go” Then God saved us, he saved us with the rain He sent St. Heyward down to ease the boys’ pain You said “Babe, you got to stay positive” I still close my eyes and see that out 25 years lord knows I’ve been devout We both had tears in our eyes Well they won tonight I guess anything could happen Even we just might stand a chance Cause tonight we’re singing “Go Cubs Go” Go Cubs go Go Cubs go Hey Chicago what’d you say Cubs are gonna win today Go Cubs go Go Cubs go Hey New York what’d you say Cubs are gonna win today Go Cubs go Go Cubs go Hey Seattle what’d you say Cubs are gonna win today

about

On the first day we met in August 2005, we offhandedly promised each other that if the Cubs made it to the World Series we'd both have to go to Chicago. Don't ask us why we said this, but two hours after the Cubs clinched the 2016 NLCS, Stan called Alex and convinced him to fly to Chicago that Saturday to tailgate Game 4 even though Alex had a big essay due that next week. Happy one year anniversary, Cubs!

Special thanks to Uncle Dan, Aunt Laurie, Mary, & Jane for hanging out with us that night; Claude & Shannon for putting us up after Game 4; Bill & Maureen Bojan for taking us out for brunch and driving us to the airport the next day, and the two Terrys for raising us to care this much.
